OTTAWA – The LaSalle County Board on Monday passed a resolution retaining a law firm to take part in multi-district litigation against pharmaceutical companies and distributors. The resolution would allow the county to pursue in federal court lawsuits against manufacturers and distributors of controlled substances.
Coroner William Wujak stated that so far the county has had 18 overdoses this year, and that they may pass last years total of 34 deaths.
Assistant States Attorney George Mueller recommended the hiring of outside counsel.
Attorney Melissa Sims of Sanders, Phillips Grossman reiterated the danger of addiction, and thanked the board for passing the resolution and allowing her firm to represent the county.
