SPRING VALLEY – Seven firemen will be called on to help Spring Valley’s fire department during the day. At Monday night’s city council meeting it was approved to hire seven part time firemen even if they’re a full time member of another department. Chief Bogatitus requested the help, one in house and six outside the department to cover the day shifts on Monday through Friday. The hours would be divvied up between the seven to be within Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund regulations. Bogatitus says provisions to hiring on full-time firefighters requires the Department to keep track of hours and wages and notify the firefighter’s full time department of any injuries.
