OTTAWA – Results from a mental health test, that would determine if a LaSalle man accused of suffocating his infant son is fit for trial is expected to be announced, Wednesday. 23-year-old Kenneth Herbst faces first-degree murder charges stemming from a spring 2019 incident in the 900 block of Grant Street in LaSalle where authorities say he allegedly smothered his 2-month-old son with a pillowcase. The psychiatric exam is a long time coming. Herbst was expected to have taken the exam over a month ago, however Public Defender Tim Capellini postponed during the holidays. Herbst has been held at the LaSalle County Jail since last April.
