UTICA – The powerful Derecho that swept through the area on Monday knocked down so many trees, Starved Rock and Matthiessen will be closed at least through the weekend. Power has been restored to Starved Rock Lodge but the Lodge will not reopen for check until mid-day Thursday. According to park authorities, hanging tree limbs, debris, and other hazards have to be cleaned up. Tickets will be issued to those trying to sneak into the park or parking along roadsides.
The campground didn’t receive damage like the park areas did and those with reservations can plan on camping this week. Trails and both parks are closed to campers as well as the public.
