PERU – Peru Elementary School District 124 will be adding weekly COVID-19 testing as an extra mitigation measure to help protect students and staff. The district is partnering with SHIELD Illinois (University of Illinois) to make the cost-free saliva PCR screening test available to families. Participating students and staff will be tested once a week. Results will be available to the school district within 24 hours of testing. Peru Elementary School District officials say, students who participate in the non-invasive testing program will reduce the chance of being quarantined for 14 days if exposed to a positive case in the classroom setting.
