Arizona Coyotes’ Clayton Keller has season-ending surgery for fractured leg

Arizona Coyotes star Clayton Keller will be out for the rest of the season after being taken off the ice on a stretcher during a game against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night. Keller crashed legs-first into the boards late in Arizona’s 5-2 victory over the Sharks.

Keller tweeted he is resting in hospital after being transported there immediately following the injury, and plans to be ready for the start of the 2022-23 campaign.  The Coyotes tweeted that the winger underwent successful surgery for a fractured leg Wednesday night and is expected to make a full recovery after four to six months.

The game between the Coyotes and Sharks was delayed about 10 minutes with 5:15 remaining after Keller, the Coyotes’ leading scorer, went hard into the boards behind the San Jose net. He remained prone on the ice for about five minutes before being wheeled off, giving a thumbs-up sign as he left.

Keller is the Coyotes leading scorer with 28 goals and 35 assists.
