Maytag building in LaSalle to be temporarily repaired, Kaskaskia structure inspection to follow

LASALLE – The city of LaSalle is working with building owners on repairing structures and making safety precautions for pedestrians. An independent building study was conducted at the Maytag Building, located at  801-805 First Street, and found leaning walls, cracks, and loose bricks. LaSalle’s hired engineer recommended a repair and scaffolding as temporary support, last week.
At LaSalle’s City Council Meeting on Monday night, Mayor Jeff Grove says the building owner is working on ordering materials. Alderman Jerry Reynolds will serve as a liaison and expects weekly updates. At the same time, the city is also anticipating a structural report on the 200 Marquette Building, the former Kaskaskia Hotel. Grove says he wants to be as transparent as possible and keep the community informed on these structures.
