MENDOTA – One man was discovered deceased in a home that was the scene of an apparent gunfire incident in Mendota on Thursday. The Mendota Police say they were originally called to the 500 block of 12th Ave after a resident noted a gun shot hole on their vehicle. Neighbors, authorities say, also heard what they claimed to be gunfire the previous night. Around 3:20 PM Mendota Police and EMS services responded to a home in the 500 block of 11th Ave where a deceased male was found. Police determined that multiple firearms had been purportedly fired from the front room of the house, exiting a picture window with the rounds striking neighborhood homes, fences, garages and an automobile. In a press release, the department noted that there is no cause for alarm and no current threat stemming from this incident. The investigation is ongoing by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, LaSalle County States Attorney’s Office and the Coroners Office.
